Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant to Supply 330kt of Rails in 2017

Reportedly, since commissioning of its rail-and-structural steel mill, Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant (part of Mechel) has produced 500kt of rails.

More than 90% of the total output were supplied to Russian Railways. In 2016 Russian Railways were supplied 270kt of steel rails, while in 2017 the supplies are planned to reach 330kt.

The rail-and-structural steel mill can also produce 100m rails. Batch production of rails at Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant began in the beginning of 2016 as a result of the cooperation agreement signed between the Plant and Russian Railways.

“Our production steel rails program includes entering European markets in the nearest future. Due to their durability our steel rains comply with the highest international standards” commented Anatoly Schetinin, Managing Director, Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant.
