ANDRITZ to Supply New Chromium Plating Line to Thyssenkrupp Rasselstein, Germany
International Technology Group ANDRITZ, a Metal-Expo exhibitor has received an order to supply a new chromium plating line from thyssenkrupp Rasselstein GmbH for their plant in Andernach, Germany.
The scope of supply and services includes engineering, manufacture and supply of the mechanical, process engineering and electrical equipment as well as erection work and start-up of the entire line. Production of the first coil is scheduled for the first quarter of 2022.
The chromium plating line to be supplied by ANDRITZ will comply with the new EU directives (chromium6+ – ban by the EU chemicals directive REACH). The process used in the new plant (known as TCCT – Trivalent Chromium Coating Technology) for chromium plating of packaging steel uses trivalent chromium for surface treatment, thus meeting the REACH requirements. The process applied up till now (ECCS – Electrolytic Chromium Coated Steel) uses hexavalent chromium.
At the world’s largest production location for packaging steel, thyssenkrupp Rasselstein produces tin-plated or electrolytic chromium coated steel (cold-rolled sheet steel in thicknesses from 0.100 to 0.499 mm). The material is suitable with and without organic coating (such as paint, foil) for many different packaging solutions. At the moment, around 2,400 employees produce approximately 1.5 million tons of packaging steel for 400 customers in 80 countries. More than 90 percent of the material produced by thyssenkrupp Rasselstein is used in the packaging sector, for food and beverages for example or technical chemical products such as aerosol or paint cans.
