Ural Steel Increases Slag Pot Production
Ural Steel (Novotroitsk-based enterprise of Metalloinvest, a Metal-Expo regular exhibitor) has increased the rate of slag pot production to more than 40 units per month. 500 units are expected to be produced by the end of the year.
Slag pots are used in metal manufacturing industries to receive and transport liquid slag from the melting furnace to the slag dump. Due to operation at high temperatures and heavy loads, extensive requirements are placed on the pots’ mechanical properties.
The main advantages of the Novotroitsk-produced pots are high quality, a significantly longer service life than stipulated by the warranty and competitive pricing. For its own needs, the pots cost the plant a third less than if purchased elsewhere.
The plant’s modular casting unit produces pots for blast furnace and electric steelmaking facilities of Ural Steel and OEMK (also part of Metalloinvest). In addition, the products are supplied to third-party metals and mining companies in Russia, Kazakhstan and Bulgaria.
Since the launch of production, the modular casting unit has produced 1.5 thousand large-size cast products. It produces more than 40 pots in various sizes and weights up to 50 tonnes. Along with the increase in production, an expansion of the range of large-size cast products is also planned.
As part of its modernisation programme, Ural Steel plans to acquire an HTS 50-tonne shot blasting chamber, a five-coordinate machine and a unit for processing and regenerating used sand, which will enable the enterprise to meet high customer requirements and reduce costs.
