Primetals Technologies Has Been Contracted to Modernize a Slovenian Plate Mill’s Cycloconverter Drives

Primetals Technologies, a Metal-Expo regular exhibitor, said the SIJ Acroni d.o.o. project will also include replacement of the existing cycloconverter drive controls for the upper and lower motors on the Jesenice stainless mill's roughing stand. 

Primetals Technologies said the goal is to maintain equipment availability and secure a spare parts supply. 

“This will be done by replacing the obsolete drive and field control systems with the VarioVerter cycloconverter developed by Primetals Technologies and new field control system,” the company said. 

The project entails supply and installation of two VarioVerter cycloconverter controllers, electrical assembly, and integration into the plate mill's existing basic automation control system.

The work, which is to be carried out during an annual winter outage, is set for completion in January 2022.
