MMK’s Replacement of Sintering Machines Underway
In the sinter shop of the Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK), a Metal-Expo regular exhibitor, commissioning work is underway on the updated sintering machine No 12 of sinter plant No 3. The contract for the supply of sinter machine No 12 of sinter plant No 3 was signed in May 2021. The equipment was manufactured by the enterprises of the UZTM-KARTEX Group’s Uralmashzavod in Yekaterinburg and Uralmash-Mining Equipment in Orsk. On the new sintering machine, the layer of charge was increased, and rippers were also mounted to ensure gas permeability. The launch of the new machine will make it possible to replace outdated equipment, increase the production of sinter, and reduce gas consumption.
With the launch of sinter plant No 5 in 2019, MMK was able to decommission the outdated sinter plant No 4. The next stage of modernization is planned to replace all sintering machines of sinter plants No 2 and 3 operating at MMK. The next replacement is sinter machine No 11 of sinter plant No 3, after which it is planned to replace the remaining ninth and tenth machines and five old sinter machines of sinter plant No 2. The sinter shop modernization program is designed until 2025.
Sinter production of MMK currently consists of 3 sinter plants No 2, 3 and 5. According to the results of the past year, MMK reached a record level of sinter output in the post-Soviet period at 11.4 million tonnes.
