On the developments of Russian foundry workers for high-tech industries

The XVIII All-Russian Foundrymen's Congress was held as part of the Metal-Expo'2024 business programme, and was opened by Ivan Dibrov, Honorary President of the Russian Foundrymen's Association of the Russian Federation.The event focused on new materials and technologies for advanced sectors of Russian industry.

'According to our calculations, there are 870 foundries in Russia. However, I believe this is an underestimation, and the actual number is closer to 900 or slightly higher. It is important to note that our industry encompasses not only the production of castings, but also the manufacturing of equipment, materials, higher education, and universities', Ivan Dibrov, Honorary President of the Russian Foundrymen's Association of the Russian Federation, stated at the opening of the congress.

Dmitry Chernikov, a representative of the Samara Korolev Research University (Samara Aerospace University), was one of the first speakers at the congress. He focused on magnetic-pulse technologies, and his presentation highlighted the Samara Korolev Research University as a centre of competence in this field. The university is involved in the development and improvement of these technologies, as well as the creation of equipment and tools for their implementation.

Magnetic-pulse machining refers to pulse methods, which also include explosive stamping and electrohydro-pulse machining.The common features of all these methods are high power development and low impact on the workpiece.Read more in the January issue of MSS.

The latest foundry technologies will be presented at the Metallurgy.Russia'2025, Litmash.Russia'2025 Specialised Exhibition, which will be held at the new Moscow exhibition complex Timiryazev Centre from 3-5 June 2025.
