Modernization of steel enterprises, stirring up demand for steel, and developing of technologies of the future are among the top priorities of Metal-Expo’2010

A meeting of the Organizing Committee of Metal-Expo’2010 16th International Industrial Exhibition was held on February 16 in Moscow. The Committee consisting of representatives of unions and associations in the steel, construction, and machine-building industries, as well as heads of scientific and research institutions analyzed program of the forthcoming forum from the point of view of stirring up of the real segment of the economy in order to increase metal and steel consumption in the key industries generating demand for ferrous and non-ferrous products including fuel and energy complex, construction, and machine-building.

A traditionally tense program of events of Metal-Expo will be extended by a number of new conferences focused on a more detailed study of needs and requirements of the main consuming industries including modernization of the steel industry according to the needs of the fuel and energy complex, mastering new types of rolled products for construction, meeting the needs of the automotive industry in steel products as one of the main industries in machine-building etc. Metal and Steel Products for the Automotive industry, a 2 day conference will cover Flats, Long Mesh Products, Non-Ferrous Products, and Car Parts Manufacture.

The construction industry will become one of the key topics of the Metal Week in Moscow which will also include Steel Structures, 2d International Conference for Steel Structures Designers and Manufacturers and MetallStroyForum’2010 a big exposition of steel structures manufacturers. This will stir up development of the construction industry and a real segment of the economy. A. Dorofeev, Head of Department, Builders Association of Russia emphasized importance of development of more close relations between steel producers and constructors especially today, when the industry experiences a period of transition due to the abolition of licensing of construction companies since January 1, 2010. However, A. Dorofeev said that many construction companies would participate in Metal-Expo and MetalStroyForum to discuss matters of consumption of metal and steel products in construction.

According to A. Romanov, Co-Chairman of the Organizing Committee of Metal-Expo in the next 5 years around 250kt of steel structures are to be manufactured for ferrous and non-ferrous enterprises in Russia. Most unfortunately, the Russian construction complex misses these large volumes giving up to international companies due to the lack of the coordination. Another industry to develop is manufacture of light steel structures for low rise buildings.

Tens of business events are traditionally held during Metal-Expo with participation of thousands of heads and professionals in mining and metallurgical complex and related industries. Last year more than 20 thousand specialists representing more than 500 companies from 25 countries participated in Metal-Expo. In November 2010 Metal-Expo will grow by 20%, and the number of exhibitors will reach 600. The whole range of modern equipment, products of ferrous and non-ferrous industries as well as technologies for metal-working will be exhibited at the show.

Organizing Committee of Metal-Expo’2010 16th International Industrial Exhibition also announced a competition for students and young scientists for Metal-Expo grants. The Organizing Committee noticed that modernization and innovation are impossible without stimulating young scientists and intellectuals. In fact, one of the largest industrial exhibitions in Russia focuses on support of technical education and steel industry manpower training. Metal-Expo partners in this program have become industrial departments of the Russian government and leading scientific institutions such as TSNIIChermet named after Bardin, GINTSVETMET, Moscow State Institute of Steels and Alloys, VNIIMETMASH, TSNIITMASH, Tsvetmetobrabotka Institute etc. The Metal-Expo program of supporting technical education fits with the national strategy of the Russian Government aimed at development of technical education and stimulating young scientists.

From now on not only projects on modernization of facilities and development of new technologies carried out in 2009-2010 will be announced at Metal-Expo, but also names of young and talented scientists.
